Tony Chan has always
had a love for the water but it wasn’t until he took his Open Water Scuba Diver
certification class that he fully realized just how amazing the world below
water could be. From that moment on, he has dedicated himself to becoming the
best diver he could become and to share with others the wonderful underwater
world.
Prior to becoming a scuba instructor, Tony acquired many years of
teaching and coaching experience as a volleyball coach, volleyball class
instructor and computer class instructor at the University of California, Santa
Barbara. In addition to a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication, he holds a
Coaching Certification Credential from UCSB. Tony has been able to combine his
love of diving with his teaching and coaching experience to create a fun and
instructional diving education program.
Tony is a NAUI Instructor
and Nitrox Instructor, an SDI Open Water Scuba Instructor and a TDI
Nitrox Instructor. He holds certifications in Nitrox, Advanced Nitrox,
Decompression Procedures, Trimix, Advanced Trimix and Advanced Wreck Diver. He
is also a certified Visual Inspection Procedures Cylinder Inspector and ASHI
First Aid\CPR Instructor. Tony is constantly taking classes to further his
knowledge and is the Assistant Director of Training for the Progressive Diving
Institute (www.progressivediving.com), one of the premier Technical
Diving schools in the country. Tony received his Instructor certifications and
technical training from Peter Den Haan at
Progressive Diving Institute.
Tony’s diving experiences include 150 foot
nitrox dives in the fresh water of Lake Tahoe (at 6229 feet of altitude) to 225
foot trimix dives underneath Oil Rig “Grace” in the Santa Barbara Channel. He
has been a safety diver on numerous deep diving expeditions and has been
contracted to do work dives for environmental consulting companies. With such a
broad range of dives… from beach diving to rig dives to deep open water
technical dives and everything in between… he draws from his experiences and
passes on the knowledge he has gained to his students.
When Tony is not diving or
working, he can be found spending time with his
family, on the golf course or reffing
USA, College or AVP Pro Beach Volleyball.
